On November 4, 2008, Barrack Obama won the election for president. He laid out his vision for his presidency in Grant Park in Chicago, Illinois that night in his victory speech. The part of the speech that stood out for me was the three words that became a battle cry during his campaign, "Yes we can!" The theme continues in this speech. Whether you like him or not, whether you voted for him or not, the message of personal accountability and community action are essentially American. The idea of government of, by, and for the people is a recurring theme in American History. From the Sons of Liberty to the Underground Railroad to the Suffragettes to Chavez and his migrant workers to King and the Civil Rights Movement, American citizens have consistently stood up for what they believe in and become the change they wanted to see. It is the power of the people in those movements that created the change. No change can come without the will and consent, and action of the people. Obama calls all of us to action to improve our nation.

Isha,
I added the link to the video in my diary about freedom. Glad you visited and like the blog. Keep visiting for more info! I'll get your bonus in my gradebook.
William,
I couldn't agree more, but we are in some tough times. I hope he can deliver on just some of his promises. He has his hands tied a litle by the mess we have gotten into. I just hope the Democrats don't go crazy with power now that they control both houses and the White House. Someone once said that absolute power corrupts absolutely. I hope Obama delivers the change I have been hoping for!
I think that Obama Being President Is really Good for our Nation Because.. I think That We need a change Because George Bush wasnt getting us anyway. And I think That alot of People Were Voting For McCain Because they Were Afraid of Change. But I think this Is a good Change.. :D
Thanks for your thought, Kelsey. I happen to agree with you, but the great thing about America is that others who don't agree with us are still free to speak their minds. We are able to respectfully disagree with each other and still be friends. I have high hopes for this Obama presidency, so I hope I'm not let down. See you in class!
This is realy inspiring. I think Obama is the right choice and will make a change to are society, but like you said he has alot to do. Gooooo Obama!!!!!!
i still think it will take some years to make a complete change to get our economy back on track with any president. no matter how great he or she is. i believe Obama can do the job.Ps. Barrack is an excellent speaker.
Seth,
That's very perceptive of you. It will take MANY years to recover from our current economic situation. In fact it may not even be by the end of Obama's first term. It's hard to be patient, but we will have to be as a nation. I hope we can figure it out. In another post you made, you mentioned the speed at which we evolve. It's crazy how fastw e can do things when we set our minds to it. It took 350 years to truly grant civil rights, then 4o years after that we elect a black president. So much resistance, but suck quick change. It took us just a decade to ge tto the moon. I think our next big challenge is cheap, renewable energy. Your posts are very insightful. keep up the good work!
I myself wanted McCain to win, I think he was the better canidate. But you can't always win and I have faith Obama will do a good job. You are right, Obama is our president now and I have to accept him as our nations leader. And i wish him luck becase there are a lot of problems that nead to be dealt with. Nice blog Mr.Crews
That's a very mature attitude, Andrew. I have felt the sting of being on the losing side of an election, and I must say, I probably didn't take it as well as you. Senator McCain is an honorable man who gave a lot for his country. I certainly respect that.
